HOLP Map Pack and Playstation 3
Posted by Barballs
There has been a lot of chatter about the state of the HOLP 1 Map pack for Playstation 3 (PS3). So I have created a little F.A.Q. for all you PS3 players out there!
- Is there a HOLP 1 for PS3?No, there is not an official pack released for PS3 as of this writing. The PS3 tools where not available at time of completion.
- Will there be?Yes! This has been a long process as many of the mappers involved have not had the time to spare due to real life committments. It is still in the works.
- When will it be released? We are very close to having a complete set of the maps cooked and ready. It will be released it along side or before the release of HOLP 2
- And when is HOLP 2 out? When it's done... heh I've always wanted to say that! I can tell you you will be playing it before September is finished most definitely. Who knows maybe even sooner if you all are very good to us ;)
The state of the union...

Things are progressing nicely on both Tug Of War and my, as yet unnamed, 3dbuzz map. I got the opportunity to test the gametype on a lan and it works quite nicely. There's a bug with manually changing sides not working but it is not critical at the moment. Next to be developed are the HUD and win condition. Once I have that bug and any other isses that arise dealth with, it will be released for general consumption.
DM-Unnamed finally has a complete layout. I am very excited about the way it plays and think it will make a fine map once complete. I plan to get the basic texturing done over this weekend so I can start showing some decent screenshots.
On another note, we have 7 confirmed maps for HOLP2. There are likely be more but this will confirmed closer to release. Most of the original crew are back for round 2 with a few new faces to boot! Stay tuned for more.
Progress

A lot has been happening over the last 5 days. With the amount of tasks ahead of me
over the next eight to twelve months. Below is the list of all tasks I plan to take care of. Be warned, this is a long one! Stay tuned for tomorrow's post about the next level of interactive entertainment.
Tug Of War
The gametype is progressing. Human players now swap
teams. AI players are not changing at the moment due to auto balancing which needs to be fixed. Still on the
to do list are replication, HUD, win conditions, and variable team sizes.
3D Buzz Competition
I finally have a layout sorted for this map.
Over the next 20 days I'll be developing this map. Head on over to the 3DBuzz forums where you can find the entries.
HOLP 2
The Hardcore OldSkool Low Poly team are back in full
swing. We are busy working on the second installment of this map pack. We are aiming for a release between
the last week of July and first week of August. Teasers will be released as we progress. PS3 fans will not
be disappointed as both PC and PS3 content will be released together for HOLP 2.
Codename: Floaty
I am making a CTF map for the "Make
Something Unreal" competition! Codenamed Floaty, and it will feature unique gameplay and visuals like
never seen before in the Unreal series. The word I want to best describe this map is "striking".
More to follow as it gets deveolped
Engines of the Gaming World
For as long as I can remember in
mapping I have had the goal to make a map for every engine I've ever played. So over the next six to eight
months I plan to develop a map for each of the following games: Command & Conquer, Crysis, Company of
Heroes, Call of Duty 4, Starcraft 2 and Team Fortress 2 or Counter-Strike Source. The aim is to learn how to use the editor while designing the map. This is primarily to test the availability of help and resources for each of the engines' editors. More updates as the trials continue.
MappingUnreal
The website for unreal engine mappers will be
back in action with full functionality. This will take the form of a private beta. Options on how to enroll for this beta will be released this Autumn.
PathNode
Thats right, this site is getting a few more tweaks to help make it more efficient and content rich. More details on this after the 3DBuzz competition.
Tug Of War
Posted by Barballs
I have taken it upon myself to develop a little gametype/mutator called Tug Of War for the purposes of showing Unrealscript/Kismet to those interested. There is going to be a little HUD work included in this demonstration. When finished I'll upload turorials on how to do this yourself. With the second "Make Something Unreal contest" in motion I thought it would be good to host a few tutorials for all the budding designers/modders out there!
So! What exactly is Tug Of War all about? It is a simple twist on the Team Deathmatch gametype. When a player is killed by enemy team or commits suicide he/she swaps team. The mission objective is to absorb the other team. So it is a tug of war with the individual players being the rope!
The concept is complete and development begins today after work. Progress reports and screen shots will be released over the course of development followed by download and tutorials.

It’s quiet, too quiet...
In the last few months I have been very quiet on this website and the community. This is due to me moving country, twice! After a month in the States I am now in UK and working for Chemistry Studios on Unreal Engine 3 Games. Now that I am settled again I am happy to report a flurry of mapping activity. First off is my 4on4 TDM entry to the 3DBuzz Old School Mapping Competition. This map's progress can be viewed on my entry page over the coming month. Next up are two rather ambitious projects for me, codenamed "floaty" and "thedark". Lastly the site will be getting finished and polished, finally.
Maps Ahoy!

The maps section is now live. It will get an overhaul over the next few days as time allows. In the meantime the maps can be viewed and downloaded at your leisure. Comments section will be online shortly too.

I am proud to announce the inclusion of my latest map, DM-Flustered, in the Hardcore Oldskool Low Poly Map Pack. All map maps in the pack are top notch and I highly recommend downloading it.
- 9 Levels in total, 5 CTF and 4 DM levels.
- The focus is on great gameplay.
- Hardcore oldskool (think UT1) levels with minimum clutter, maximum gameplay, and somewhat decent visuals.
- Nearly all contributing level designers are professionally active within the games industry and all of them are European.
- Involved were Hourences, Sefyra, h0ok, Sabrewulf, Sjosz, Hazel, Slainchild, and myself (Barballs).
- Great performance.
- Wide range of themes and colors.
- No or limited bloom, depth of field, motion blur, normal maps, and so on.
